Whale Print

Hi friends,

Last week’s Wade Ripple craft got us thinking about waves and water. So we’re bringing you golden sand, beautiful ripples of blues, and an adorable whale, highlighting your little’s handprint! Check out our easy whale print craft below.

What You'll Need

  1. Medium Weight or Watercolor Paper

  2. Craft Paints- Gold, Blues, Yellow, Black, White

  3. Paint Brushes

  4. Rinse Jar

  5. Cake Scraper

    Optional: Paint Tray, Table Cover

The Steps

SAND

  1. Use the gold paint and paint brush to make sand at the bottom.

WAVES

  1. Squirt the different blues and a bit of white paint along the width of the paper.

  2. We folded our Dollar Tree scraper in half and cut it with scissors, before pressing it down and spreading the paints in a wavy/ripple motion. Add more paint if necessary and repeat the ripple.

  3. Let the paint dry for about 20 minutes before moving on to the next steps.

WHALE

  1. Choose black/white, 2 greys(we had to mix our own), or your preferred colors for the whale.

  2. Once the ocean is 80- 90% dry, paint the thumb and 2 & 1/2 fingers in 1 color and the rest of the fingers in a different color.

  3. Turn your paper vertically, then press the *hand slightly over the water, and press firmly.

*The thumb can face up or down

4. With the brush and paint create the whale’s tale, then add an eye and mouth as well.

5. Add some water splashes from the top of the whale’s body.

6. Add sun, clouds, birds, or any other detail if you’d like.

That’s it!

Matthias’ whale and mine, they look like Belugas!

Happy crafting!
