ELEMENTAL Wade Ripple

Hi friends,

We’re back for a second week of ELEMENTAL crafts! Elemental is the newest Disney Pixar animation and Wade Ripple is one of the main characters with a relaxed, go-with-the-flow personality. A contrast from last week’s fiery Ember Lumen. I was really excited to make this water-themed character for a few reasons: the challenge of making paper look like water, watching the kids enjoy mixing paints with little-to-no mess = ) and seeing their unique results. We weren’t disappointed! Check out how we turned paper and paints into Elemental’s Wade Ripple.

What You'll Need

  1. Watercolor or Medium Weight Paper

  2. Craft Paints

  3. Pencil

  4. Scissors

  5. Glue Stick

  6. Cookie Sheet

  7. Plastic Wrap

  8. Colored Pencils

    Optional: Large Cereal Bowl

The Steps

HEAD

  1. Turn your paper vertically and create a rounded bottom with a large bowl or freehand it.

  2. Draw wide rounded sides up towards the top and then 4 angled wave pieces at the top.

  3. Cut out Wade's head and save the excess paper. If you’re making multiples, trace the cut-out as many times as needed, and cut out before moving on.

WATER

  1. Lay your paper onto the tray and squirt at least 2 blue and some white paint onto the paper.

  2. Place a long enough strip of plastic wrap to cover Wade and a few extra inches of overlap.

  3. Now squish and spread the paint with your fingers until every area is covered. If you need more paint, carefully lift up the plastic wrap, add a bit more, and repeat the process.

  4. Carefully remove the plastic wrap, throw it away, and move Wade to a clean area to dry for 20 minutes. As it dries, the edges and the waves will begin to curve in. You can leave them as is or straighten them out when dried.

EYES

  1. Fold the excess paper in half and trace a 2oz paint bottle for the eyeballs.

  2. Center the glue stick and trace it for the iris, then trace a colored pencil for the pupil.

  3. Cut both eyeballs out, create the iris & pupil on the 2nd eye, then color the iris in light blues/turquoises and the pupil in dark blue. You can leave a tiny circle uncolored on the pupil for the glare.

COMPLETE

  1. Once Wade is completely dry, glue the eyes on his face.

  2. With a dark blue pencil draw curved eyebrows, outline the eyes, create a rounded nose, and a smile.

  3. You can add some details in white or turquoise around the nose and mouth.

    That’s it!

Our versions of Wade! What do you think??

Happy crafting!
