Hi friends,
Have you seen the ads/previews for the new Space Jam: A New Legacy movie? We’re all eager to watch it. The older ones are a bit leery it won’t be as good as the first, the littles are excited to be in a movie theater again, and I’m thrilled to watch something family-friendly, make some new memories, and get me some kettle corn ASAP. LOL
Well, that movie and my recent tie-dye purchase inspired this week’s craft! I’ve been loving tie-dye more in the last few years, as the designs/colors have “grown-up” a bit. And since a friend had recently started tie-dyeing, I asked if she would PLEASE make me something with black. I didn’t give her any other instructions, but what she came back with was beautiful. I LOVE it! I love that her work, sparked my own creativity this week too. Check out our easy Galaxy Paper Lanterns and my tie-dye shirt below!

The Steps
*We had leftover blue lanterns from my eldest’s birthday party a few weeks ago, but you could use white or another color that works well with your galaxy color choices.
Cover your workspace and assemble your lantern.
Add some water to your paint tray and 1 squirt of paint per each section. Mix with the end of your brush. You want to create your own watercolors by thinning out the craft paint.
I used mainly black as my background sky while Naomi used more blues. She also didn’t thin hers out enough and went back over it with some water to soften the edges.
Paint your lantern all around, leaving some of the original paper visible.
Layer colors with the lightest being in the center.
5. With a firm brush you can flick the white paint to create stars all around.
6. While the paint is wet you can also sprinkle glitter all over or just in the lighter spots. If your paint has already dried, go over it once again and then sprinkle the glitter.
That’s it!
I used gold glitter in the 1st section, silver in the 2nd, iridescent & silver in the 3rd and on the last side just iridescent(not shown).
Naomi used a bit of iridescent glitter, but it’s hard to see it in the photos.
They both came out beautifully and totally unique, just like my shirt! Don’t be surprised if you see us in tie-dye more often : ))
Happy crafting!
Amanda and Naomi
