Hi friends,

Today we’re bringing you a little nostalgia inspired by the empty gumball machine in my garage. A few weeks ago we were all driving back from an ice cream run and Naomi excitedly said, “Dad, LOOK at that free gumball machine!!”. It was on the curb with a free sign. She followed it with, “Can we go back for it Dad?. He agreed and they happily went.

Because my hubby loves nostalgia, old signs, and unique things, like much of our family/extended family, she knew this would be right up there with the cool things he’d already collected. But most rewarding, was discovering it together. Free was just the bonus! Although it’s a newer machine, it’s pretty cool, has the old-fashioned look, and is bound to make its home somewhere in our backyard. Here’s your chance to make a fun pom pom version for yourself. Check it out below.

What You'll Need

  1. White Construction Paper

  2. Bowl

  3. Pencil

  4. Glue

  5. Pom Poms

  6. Colored Pencils

    Optional: Crayons/Markers

The Steps

  1. Trace your bowl further up on the vertical paper to create the globe.

  2. Draw the sides of the machine, starting from the lower left/right side of the circle, *draw a line extending a bit out, like the bottom half of a triangle, and then across the bottom before repeating for the opposite side.

*Draw a standing machine by leaving a bit of the bottom exposed for the post to be drawn in or a tabletop one and draw the machine to the bottom of the page.

3. Draw a rectangle under the globe and a quarter-sized circle for the coin slot.

4. Draw a very small circle and 2 narrow ovals for the turning mechanism.

5. Below the rectangle add a rounded line for the gumball drop.

6. On the top of the globe draw the lid.

7. *Color the lid, machine, and gumball drop red or another color.

8. Outline the globe in grey and color the coin/turning mechanisms grey too.

*If you’re drawing a bit of the post, add a black pole under the machine.

9. Last, add the glue and plenty of pom poms, maybe one on the drop. Let dry for about 10 minutes.

That’s it!

Which color gumball would you choose for yourself?

Happy crafting!
