"THE GREAT PUMPKIN" Treat Bags

Hi Friends,

This is the last week of October, so we decided to close it out with a little childhood Charlie Brown nostalgia. But it’s not about me; I was always distracted/frustrated with the “Wah, wah, wah” adult speak, to get most of the content or jokes. I mean WHY couldn’t they talk normal, I just wanted to understand. People, I need details. Clearly I’m not over it lol Although I DO appreciate Charlie and the gang, I can only take so much, “Wah, wah”, even now.

Today is a huge shout-out to my Charlie Brown & Gang loving hubby and his little protege Naomi. Naomi had a Peanuts & Gang 9th birthday party, her room decorated in the same theme, a family outing to the Peanuts museum for hubby’s birthday years ago, a couple of books, and Peanuts clothing in a few of the closets. We have a Christmas special, a fall special, and other episodes at our disposal; each year, they are dusted off for holiday viewings. We have yet to decorate our tree in a Charlie Brown theme but I’m sure that will come in time :) Charlie lives on in these 2 people and you get to join them. Check out the fun treat bags below!

What You'll Need

  1. White/Craft Bag

  2. Blue, Dk Green, Lt. Green, Yellow, Black, White & Orange Construction Paper (1 each)

  3. Pencil

  4. Yellow Colored Pencil

  5. Scissors

  6. Glue Stick

    optional: Ruler, Large Bowl/Cup, Markers

The Steps

Charlie Brown Side

  1. Glue the yellow construction paper onto the front of the bag, centering it before laying it down.

2. Use a 1/2 sheet of black to create Charlie’s zig zag. We just free handed it* and spaced it out with our hands.

3. Cut the zig zag out and glue to center, horizontally.

*You may use a ruler here if you’d prefer.

4. Fold the orange paper in half and draw* half the pumpkin on the seam area.

5. Cut out, add lines in pencil to define the sections and then glue near the zig zag.

6. Add a stem and/or a vine.

* You may draw any sized pumpkin.

Great Pumpkin Side

  1. Lay the blue paper behind the bag and horizontally, making sure it is lined up with the edge of the bag.

  2. Trace the edge of the bag onto the blue paper and cut.

  3. Lift open the flap and glue the blue paper onto the upper portion.

  4. Use a bowl/cup to trace a moon on the white paper, the size is up to you; then cut out.

5. Color the moon yellow or leave white and paste onto the blue paper.

*Can you see our inspiration in the background?

6. Line up the green paper the same way and trim off the extra.

7. You’ll need a 2 & 3/4” to 3” (L) by 10” (W) of green paper for the bottom portion of the bag, right up to the blue portion.

8. Fold the green paper where the natural fold in the bag is and glue on.

9. Use 1/2 of light green paper and fold into 1/8th’s.

10. Draw greenery on the front and carefully cut out.

Repeat with dark green and create stems if you’d like.

Naomi chose to free hand her greenery.

11. Use 1/4 sheet of orange paper and fold into 1/16’s.

12. Draw a pumpkin and cut out.

13. Glue the pumpkins and greenery.

14. Add stars with the yellow pencil.

15. Lastly, write “THE GREAT PUMPKIN”, “HAPPY PUMPKINS” or a message of choice with markers.

That’s it!

Happy crafting!

Amanda and Naomi
