Hi friends,
Today we’re sharing how to make your own Shrek swamp signs for the ogre in your life and to keep all unwanted guests away.
My little guy wanted a Shrek birthday theme last month, but there weren’t many themed options to purchase unless they were custom-made. I didn’t want to pay for custom, so we came up with these swamp-themed signs and customized them with his name for the decor. Check out our Shrek swamp signs below.

What You'll Need
(4) Brown Construction Paper Sheets
Glue
Scissors
Flat Brush
White Paint
Small Container + Water
Black Marker
The Steps
PREP
Turn your papers horizontally, overlap the end of 2 papers slightly, and glue the papers together to create a long sign. Repeat with the next 2 papers.
Cut notches in the ends of the signs, then cut off some of the squared edges for a weathered look.
PAINT
Thin out some paint with water, then with the brush write WELCOME across the 1st sign. Set aside to dry.
On the second sign and with undiluted paint, write SHREK’S SWAMP or your child’s name instead. We made smaller ones for our space which we’ll share at the end.
DETAILS
Now go back to the WELCOME sign and draw black lines over the whole sign, including the letters to further age the sign.
On the SWAMP sign add black lines only around the letters. This sign is meant to look newer.
3. Lastly, with undiluted paint, cross out the welcome sign and paint SCRAM! over it.
That’s it!
These signs can also be used as room decor, a door sign, or even a themed teacher door.
We kept our signs smaller, used a white poster marker, and use Matty’s name instead of Shrek.
His decor included a craft paper runner, green felt, moss, fake fern leaves, a “tree” for Shrek to lean on and a few more plush characters. The green banner and cake topper were Amazon purchases.
