Hi Friends,
We have, what we hope will be an amusing scratch & sniff prank for your family! What could be so bad about a few fruits and their scents?
Well for one, they won’t get the scents they’re expecting lol. You get to decide which items you’ll create and their assigned scents. You can swap scents or surprise your family with strong/stinky scents. We’ve got lots of scent ideas, check them out below!

What You'll Need
Sketch Paper(per 2 cards)
Tacky Glue & Glue Stick
Craft Paints & Brushes
Crayons
Medicine Cups
Water
Scissors
Marker
Various Scents: essential oils, cocoa powder, Jello powder, onion juice, vinegar, etc.
The Steps
The inspiration for this prank came from the scratch and sniff paint I found online.
PREP
Fold your paper in half, glue the inside, fold it in half again, and cut it into 2 cards.
Pour 1/2 TSP of glue into the medicine cups, a *squirt of paint, a few drops of water, and your scent:
Wet scents- 10-15 drops of essential oil, extracts, vinegar, onion juice from a pressed onion, etc.
Dry scents-1/4 TSP cocoa, Jello mix, ground spices, etc., and a few more drops of water.
Your paint colors will be based on the fruit/ food you choose to represent.
CREATE: decide on circles or fruit/food drawings
Draw a circle or the outline of a fruit/food(helps with associating the expected scent) onto your card, using crayons that match the paint you’ll be using. This will help contain any runny paint and help guide your child.
Paint the circle or fruit/food item with the prepared paint.
Add details like stems, leaves, etc to help your “sniff tester” identify the item and the expected scent more easily.
Vanilla cone: Frankincense oil, Lemon: Eucalyptus oil, Apple:Lavender oil, Berry: Orange oil
LABEL
While the paint dries (30 - 60 min) write “SCRATCH & SNIFF” in pencil/marker.
That’s it!
Now go ask your kiddos to check out the scratch-and-sniff paint you created!
Once I get my little sniff testers to help me, I’ll update you with their responses. ; )
Happy crafting
Amanda and Naomi
