Hi friends,
Today we have a fun roller skate craft, inspired by a recent skating outing for ALL ABOUT HOPE and a blast from my past. Leadership Roseville 2023, the amazing group of professionals helping to fund and forward our cause, held a fundraising event that included packing Hope Boxes and roller skating at Roller King.
Well, I had not skated in years, but paying at the entrance, being buzzed in, picking up brown skates, walking the colorful carpeted areas to a lace-up spot, nervously approaching the rink, and stepping foot on the smooth floor, brought memories of my youth flashing back! Check out our paper roller skates below.

What You'll Need
Construction Paper for skate, wheels, & brake.
Pipe Cleaners for laces & wheels.
Pencil
Scissors
Hole Punch
Glue
Optional: Small Cup for wheels
The Steps
SKATES
Fold your paper in half(any color) and glue.
Turn your paper horizontally, draw a skate boot with a brake on the front, and cut out.
IF making more, trace the skate on the other sheets of paper, and cut them out.
BRAKE
Trace the brake onto a different colored sheet of paper, cut it out, and glue it on top. Repeat if necessary.
WHEELS
Fold the paper(any color) for the wheels into fourths, gluing between the layers.
Fold the paper in half, draw or trace a circle on top, and cut it out. You’ll have 2 wheels. If you would prefer inline skates, create 4 wheels instead.
WHEELS
3. Cut (2) 1.5-inch pieces from a pipe cleaner for the wheels and create small circles.
4. Glue the pipe cleaner circles on the wheels and the wheels onto the skate.
LACES
Punch (8) holes, slightly angled.
Feed a pipe cleaner through the bottom holes and then up through the other holes.
That’s it!
As an added bonus, they can be customized with designs, drawings, or stickers!
White & Pink skates like the ones I had growing up. Brown & Orange skates like the ones in most rinks. Black & Green skates and Blue & Black skates, like the skaters I use to see doing the fancy moves!
STORYTIME: Growing up, I loved to skate! We would go skating for birthday parties, church events, or just because. I just loved the rush of wind and speed. One day at a yardsale with my family, I spotted white skates with pink wheels. I was so in awe of them and couldn’t believe someone had owned them or was selling them. I’m not sure if I asked my mom for them or if she saw me admiring them, but she ended up buying them for me! They were a little big, but I didn’t care, I was so happy with my skates! I rode those skates up and down our driveway and around the corner until I blistered lol. Even more fun, skipping the brown skates at the rink and proudly wearing mine. I kept those skates for years, even after I had outgrown them haha.
Skating with my kids after many years got me thinking about those skates, the enjoyment they brought me, and the future skate nights I hope to have with my family. = )
