Hi friends,
The littles joined me for a fun cherry blossom craft! We used potato flakes, water, and a bit of food dye to create our beautiful pink petals. Part of the fun is in hand mixing the dye & flakes, playing with food, and then sprinkling it over the glue.
Each of us came up with our own versions of the cherry blossom tree, including grass, flowers, clouds, blossoms on the ground, and an unexpected cat floating around lol Check out our cherry blossom trees below!

What You'll Need
White Construction Paper
Glue
Potato Flakes in a small bowl
Red/Pink Food Dye
Medicine Cup with water
Toothpick or Spoon for mixing
Colored Pencils
The Steps
FLOWER PETALS
Pour 1/4 cup or more of potato flakes into a bowl.
Fill a medicine cup with water, add a tiny bit of red or pink dye, and mix. We only had red but diluted it a bit more to get a lighter color.
Pour about 1-2 tsp of dyed water into the potato bowl and blend with your hands. It’s ok if the flakes feel wet after or clump up, it adds to the texture/look of the flowers. We repeated the process for a darker pink.
TREE & DETAILS
Color the grass at the bottom of the page, add flowers, plants, and your tree trunk and branches. Add clouds and or sun as well.
2. Add glue to the branches and spread it around with the tip of the glue bottle.
3. Sprinkle the flower petals(flakes) over the glue. We added both colors.
Matthias created a handprint tree of sorts and decided his picture needed a cat = ). Micah made a curved tree, and mine was tall and large.
4. Add some glue and petals falling from the tree or on the grass.
5. Let it dry for 15 minutes.
That’s it!
Happy crafting!
