Cinco de Mayo Conchas

Cinco de Mayo Craft, Easy Crafts, Dollar Tree Crafts, Cheap Crafts, Sweet Bread, Mexican Sweet Bread, Word Play

Hi friends,

Today we’re bringing you a craft that uses a little wordplay, gives a nod to our favorite Mexican sweet bread and uses colors highlighting the upcoming Cinco de Mayo(May 5th) festivities. Conchas are subtly sweetened bread with a seashell(concha) type of coating, round or shell-shaped, soft, and fluffy. They come in large or small sizes but are so light, you could easily have a few with milk, coffee, or Mexican hot chocolate lol You can find them in many Latin stores, sometimes even in larger grocery chains.

For our easy craft, you’ll only need a few items, and maybe a concha treat to help your creativity : ) Check out our concha craft below!

What You'll Need

  1. (2) White Construction Papers

  2. Tan, Ivory, or Grey, Green & Red Construction Papers

  3. Scissors

  4. Glue Stick

  5. Markers

The Steps

  1. Fold your tan/ivory/grey paper in half and cut large or small(fist size) circles.

You can choose how many circles to cut, but folding the paper in half will guarantee double the amount of circles with half the effort.

2. Cut rounded strips in green, white(use only 1 paper), & red for the Mexican flag representation (photos 1 & 2)

OR

Cut out circles in the individual colors a bit smaller than the tan/ivory/grey circles, then cut that circle into rounded strips(photo 3).

3. Glue all your pieces onto the tan/ivory/grey circles.

4. Arrange your conchas on the second white paper and glue them down.

5. Lastly write Concha see? IT’S CINCO de MAYO!

That’s it!!

Just in case you missed the wordplay:

Concha stands in for cantcha, a contraction for can’t and you.

Happy crafting!
