SPIDER-MAN Radioactive Spider

Happy New Year friends!

Today is the first craft of the year, but we’re continuing with the Spider-Man theme we ended 2021 with. Micah just celebrated his birthday and this radioactive spider was a part of his decor. It was super easy to make and made our theme even more fun. You can leave the spider black, paint it as we did with red & blue, or use different colors. After your spider dries, hang it from the ceiling or on the wall with some cheesecloth for a webby look. Check out our radioactive spider below.

What You'll Need

  1. Hair Donut

  2. (4) Black Pipe Cleaners

  3. Scissors

  4. Red & Blue Craft Paint

  5. Brushes

  6. Hot Glue

  7. Wiggly Eyes

Optional: Table Cover, Black Paint

The Steps

We painted our eyes black, but it’s optional.

  1. Fold your 4 pipe cleaners into thirds and cut. You’ll only need 10 pieces.

  2. Cut 1 of the 10 pieces in half, these 2 smaller pieces will become the fangs.

3. Squeeze the donut tight on 1 end to create the head.

4. Out of the 9 pieces of pipe cleaners left, use 1 to wrap tightly around the head and twist shut.

5. Flip the spider over after twisting the head and carefully poke the 2 fangs into the face, twist in if necessary.

6. Continue with the legs next and bend down.

7. Paint the top with blue, leave a band around unpainted and then paint a thin band of blue right above the legs.

8. Let the blue paint dry or paint immediately with the red(the blue and red will inevitably create purple, so keep adding red until the purple is gone). Fill in the black band with red, create a “ t ” at the top, and add red to the legs.

9. Use hot glue to add the eyes onto the face and let the paint fully dry, about 1 hour.

That’s it!

Happy crafting!
