Mummy Treat Bag

Hi friends,

As the month comes to a close, some of your neighbors or surrounding neighborhoods could be prepping for a socially distanced, outdoor trick-or-treating event. If that’s the case, this fun bag is a super easy option for collecting candy. It works with well Kraft paper bags, white gift bags, and even recycled paper grocery bags.

You can also use this method to decorate a plain colored birthday bag, use as a fun decor item, even create a mummy luminary! We offer a few options, which will you choose?! Check ours out below!

What You'll Need

  1. White/Kraft Gift Bags

  2. Cheesecloth

  3. Scissors

  4. Googly Eyes

  5. Glue

Optional: 1/4 tsp instant coffee, 1 Tbsp water, small container, and paintbrush

The Steps

  1. Unroll about 2 feet of cheesecloth and cut into large strips.

  2. Add plenty of glue to the front of the bag.

3. Separate the layers and lay them across at an angle to the opposite side. Continue with the strips, starting on the opposite side next. Press as you go and add more glue if needed.

4. Any edges hanging over can be left as is or glue down around the edges.

Optional: Aged mummy

Add a bit of instant coffee to some water and mix. Dip your brush into the coffee, remove most of the liquid and layer it on a bit at a time. Continue until you have the desired look.

Naomi didn’t follow a pattern, she applied it randomly(above). I follow the direction of my strips (not shown).

5. Add glue to the strips and add your wiggly eyes.

You can keep them exposed or tuck them between the layers.

6. Let dry for about 15 minutes.

That’s it!

Naomi’s bag and my bag.

A little candy for effect.

And lastly, some battery operated candles inside with the handles folded in.

What do you think?! These came out great!

Happy crafting!
