Hi friends!
We are so close to Thanksgiving day!! For us, it means traveling to Los Angeles, visiting lots of family, eating amazing food and catching up in a few short days. It also means finding some fun ways to keep the younger family members contained, included, and entertained. If it all works out, this could very well make the list of Thanksgiving day activities for the kids and who knows, maybe even the adults.
Our turkeys start with a basic handprint but can be as detailed as you’d like. We used watercolors as they blend & bleed colors nicely and always create such unique results. We finished them off with thankful statements. Check it out below!

What You'll Need
Heavyweight White Construction Paper
Pencil
Watercolors & Brushes
Water
Markers
optional: Drying Rag
The Steps
Decide if you would like your turkey to be on a horizontal/vertical paper.
We chose vertical to leave us more space at the bottom for the words.
Trace you hand with pencil.
optional: Connect the fingers with a rounded line and add in extra feathers.
Draw the different sections of the feathers (Naomi chose to leave a few without the sections).
Add a face, hat (optional), and the extra skin under the beak (wattles) or under the beak(snoods) and feet.
Steps repeated here
Begin to paint with the watercolors. The rag comes in handy to dry off excess water.
I decided to add the lower feathers found on turkeys.
Place your hand downward toward the back of the turkey and trace the tips of three fingers.
Fill in the feather sections.
This photo was my inspiration.
I started with the face and layered different colors before adding the darker layers on top. I then worked my way to the body and feathers.
When you’re done painting, with markers add “I am thankful for” wherever you’d like and then fill in all the ways you are thankful.
Naomi wrote her thankful statement on the bottom. I added some color to the bottom before writing in my statement.
That’s it!
Friends, what are you thankful for?
Happy crafting!
Amanda and Naomi
