"LLAMA TELL YOU" First Day of School Card

Hi friends,

We’re bringing you our annual first-day-of-school card, this time featuring adorable Llamas and some clever wordplay.

On the inside, your child can share a few details about themselves, a photo/drawing can be included and parents can leave a note for the teacher. As a bonus, we’ll show you how to make a 2nd card to keep as a keepsake. Check out our “Llama Tell You” first-day of-school card below.

What You'll Need

  1. Construction Paper: 1 White, 1 Colored

  2. Llama Stickers

  3. Pencil

  4. Marker

  5. Glue

  6. Child’s Photo

    Optional: Colorful Labels, Ruler,

The Steps

PREP

  1. Turn your white and colored paper horizontally, fold them in half, and glue the white to the inside of the colored paper.

  2. Labels: write your questions/prompts on them. Use the ones we have or come up with your own.

No labels: write directly on the card with a different colored pen.

  3. Place the labels inside the card with space for writing, a picture/drawing, and a note to the teacher(fill this out last).

DETAILS

  1. Have your child fill in the details or ask your child and write them down for them.

  2. Include a small *photo of your child or have them draw a self-portrait.

  3. If you plan to make a keepsake, leave the “note to teacher” space blank for now.

*Our school has a teacher meet & greet the day before school. I usually snap a photo of my child with their new teacher, print a wallet size at Walmart, and attach it to the card.

KEEPSAKE Optional

Perfect for when my kiddos grow up and want to revisit their school experiences.

  1. Create another card.

  2. Printer: photocopy all their responses and the photo/drawing.

No printer: Write the questions and answers inside the card.

  3. You can glue the photocopied sheet directly over the white paper or cut the responses out and glue them next to each label.

  4. Instead of a note to the teacher, leave a note to your child.

Ideas: Height, their favorite shows, silly things they do/say, how many teeth they’ve lost, their strengths, etc., and what you hope for them this year.

STICKERS & MESSAGE

  1. Choose narrow or left-facing stickers(Dollar Tree) and cut any unnecessary parts/words off.

  2. Make an upper case M______________ and have your child finish their teacher’s name

    Mr., Mrs., Miss, Ms. _________.

  3. In large, spaced out, uppercase letters write LLAMA TELL YOU ABOUT MYSELF, and at the bottom include the school year 2024/25.

  4. Trace the words with the pen, erase the pencil, and then place one sticker on the first L and one sticker on the last L.

Make sure to go back and fill out the teacher note section if you haven’t already.

That’s it!

We’ll be keeping the green card and passing on the blue one to Matthias’s teacher. Micah is a little older now so he won’t be taking one this year.

Happy crafting
