Hi friends,
We have a fun rainy-day activity that simulates rain! With all the rain California has had, we thought it a great way to beat boredom and control a little rain ourselves. It’s like a lava lamp crossed with a toy baby bottle- the rain trickles down and disappears into the grass, then flip over and see it happen in reverse, disappearing into the clouds. It’s endless rain fun! Check out our rainy day raindrops below.

What You'll Need
Green, Yellow, & Gray/Blue Construction Papers
Small Ziploc bag
Pencil
Scissors
Tacky Glue
Blue Food Coloring
(1)TBSP Oil
(1/4) TSP Water
Packing Tape
(3-4) Cotton Balls
Marker
Optional: Glue Stick, Medicine Cup
The Steps
BACKGROUND
Turn your paper horizontally, fold it in half, and glue it together.
GRASS
Cut a 6.5-inch x 2-inch strip of green paper.
Fold the green strip in half and cut out slivers of grass.
SUN
Draw a sun with rays on one side or use the medicine cup to draw a circle and rays.
Cut out the sun.
RAIN BAG
Place 1 TBSP oil, 1/4 TSP water, and 1 drop of blue food coloring into the Ziploc bag.
2. Carefully lay the bag down and remove as much air as possible before closing it.
3. Swirl your fingers over the bag, mixing the oil, water, and coloring.
4. Seal the bag with a strip of tape folded over the top to eliminate any leaks( we had a tiny drop of oil land on the background which eventually spread).
5. Tape the bag to the background 2 inches down from the top and tape the bottom as well, with tape extending to the back.
ASSEMBLE
Add Tacky glue to the bottom(over the tape) and press the grass in place.
2. Unroll your cotton balls, fluff them a bit, or gather them, then glue them onto the taped section.
3. Tuck your sun behind the clouds either on the right or left.
4. Write RAINY DAY at the top.
That’s it!!
Now you can swirl the coloring around to separate it a bit, shake it, or just comb it up into the clouds before lifting it up and letting the rain come down. Then flip upside down and let the clouds “collect” the rain again.
Happy crafting
