Fuzzy Feet Turkey

Hi friends,

We have easy-to-make turkeys with colorful feathers and orange fuzzy feet. Your child will get to draw familiar shapes to create their own turkey: large thumb: head, small circle: eye, small triangle: beak, and squiggly balloon/tube: snood. When balanced, your turkey will stand upright or can be hung with string. Check out our fuzzy feet turkeys below.

What You'll Need

  1. (2) 6-inch Paper Plates

  2. (2) Pipe Cleaners

  3. Scissors

  4. Colored Pencils

  5. Hot Glue

    Optional: Pencil, Tissue Paper

The Steps

BODY

  1. Turn 1 plate over and draw lots of lines from the center of the plate out to the edges. These lines will be the back feathers. You can use different colors as well.

  2. Turn the 2nd plate over and color the center. We chose light brown, but you can use black, dark brown, tan, or a mixture of all these, or leave it white.

HEAD

  1. Draw a large thumb in the middle of the plate with a pencil/colored pencil and extend the sides to create shoulders. We chose the same brown as before but darkened it. You may select any previous color options, including red or blue, as most turkey heads are those colors.

  2. Draw a small circle for the eye, a small triangle for the beak, and a squiggly balloon/tube for the red fleshy skin hanging from the beak(snood).

FEATHERS

  1. Our plates had indentations, so I used those as guides to color in darker parts of the feathers(I used dark brown & black). You can skip the darker lines or create your own if your plates do not have the indents.

  2. Use multiple colors to fill in most of the white areas on the feathers. It doesn’t need to be perfect.

Optional: Use a light brown colored pencil and layer it over all the colors of the feathers, then with tissue paper blend it all together. This helps blend the colors a little nicer.

LEGS

  1. Fold each pipe cleaner in half and twist together 2 inches from the top.

  2. Then fold the bottom pieces into a loop near the twisted section and twist at the bottom once again.

  3. Separate the ends and create smaller loops on each side.

  4. Hot glue the legs to the inside of the 1st plate, then add glue to the rim and carefully press the top piece and bottom pieces together.

    That’s it!

They’re not super steady but can stand upright. To steady them a bit more glue them to 2 similar-sized rocks or shortened twigs.
