Sea & Sun Glass Stone Craft

Hi friends,

Summer break has officially started for many, if not all kids. We’ve had about a week+ off and I still haven’t gotten used to it. I keep feeling like we’re missing homework, we’re (I’m) slacking off, or we’re going to have lots to make up LOL. I guess that’s one of the effects of being a “teacher” for over a year. My kids though, they’re fully emersed in their break and can’t wait to have more of a summer than last year. Me too!

We’re all looking forward to visiting Grama much more, seeing family members we haven’t seen in over a year, mini-adventures throughout, and beach time. Today’s simple craft brings you to the beach, where you get to create beautiful blue water, a warm sun, and use clear blue stones for effect. Your kiddos can add a boat, fish, birds, or anything else to personalize it even more. Check out our sea & sun craft below.

What You'll Need

  1. Watercolor Paper/Heavyweight Construction Paper

  2. (1) Bag Blue Glass Stones

  3. Tacky Glue

  4. Craft Paint & Brushes

  5. Rinse Cup

  6. Newspaper/Table Cover

    Optional: Paint Tray

The Steps

  1. Use a tan color and some water to thin it out and create sand at the bottom.

Optional: Add gold dots for a little shimmer.

  2. Add thinned-out turquoise or blues next.

  3. Paint a white or thinned-out white line between the blue and tan.

Optional: Add white on the blue as well for waves.

4. Continue adding blues, blending into each other and a *sun.

*A thinned-out blue sky is optional.

5. Add clouds, birds, fish, boat, buoy, sandcastle, umbrella, chair, or other things.

I added a tugboat and umbrella (further below).

6. Let dry for 5-10 minutes.

7. Form your letters s u n partly in the water to simulate splashes or fully in the water(further below) for a glistening effect, then apply a small swirl of glue to the back of each stone.

8. Let dry for about 20 - 30 minutes.

That’s it!

Our glue wasn’t dry yet.

I LOVE the blues and how the stones reflect the sunlight.

Happy crafting and happy summer!
