Hi friends,
Tomorrow is the FIRST DAY OF FALL!!! I’m excited to start seeing the colors really change, especially on our large backyard tree. We have 2 spider web swings that hang from that tree which the little’s and I swing on regularly. We love them, they’re so relaxing. As we lay back swinging, we get to see all the leaves and branches above us. I’m pretty sure I’m the only one waiting for a swinging session with colored leaves lol Until that little dream is fulfilled, this craft will bring fall color to my space and yours!
This weekend Naomi and I worked on making a fall-colored, rectangle-shaped, snowflake/cutout garland, for today’s craft! The craft is simple, requires minimal supplies, but does take a little longer than most of our crafts. Check it out below!

What You'll Need
Construction Paper
(1-dk. brown, 1-lt. brown, 2- red, 1-pink, 2-lt. orange, 1-dk. orange)
Scissors
Twine
Hot Glue
Optional: Different/More Colored Paper, Yarn/String
The Steps
Fold all your papers into fourths and cut.
Decide if you’d like to make random cutouts and do that with all of the sheets after you fold them, or follow our examples=
a) DIAMOND- Fold some/all papers into FIFTHS- accordion-style, THEN fold the long piece into 4 fourths.
b) TEARDROP- Fold some/all papers into FOURTHS- THEN fold the long piece into thirds.
DIAMOND cuts (4th photo, right side)
a) Take your paper that has been folded into fifths and then into fourths-
UNFOLD the piece to create a V, hold the top portion as you fold in the lower part to the center line.
CUT a triangle out of the lower part. FLIP around and repeat.
FOLD it back up and trim the corners.

b) Take your paper that has been folded into fourths and then into thirds-
FOLD once again lengthwise.
CUT a long, narrow, rounded piece.
UNFOLD 1 time and round out the corners.
MIXED
c) Take your paper that has been folded into fourths and then into thirds-
FOLD once again lengthwise.
FLIP to its side and carefully CUT a wide triangle. CAUTION- do not cut all the way, stop short of the edge.
OR
AFTER folding into thirds, OPEN back up to reveal the 3 parts.
FOLD the long piece in half lengthwise and carefully CUT a wide triangle in EACH third. CAUTION- do not cut all the way, stop short of the edge.
Cut corners or leave as is.
All our fall flakes!
3. Once all your flakes/cutouts are made, arrange them in your preferred order.
4. Cut enough string to lay them side by side and have a bit extra to loop at the end.
5. Add hot glue to the top of the paper and carefully lay your string down.
6. Repeat with all your papers and remove any glue strings.
That’s it!
I love how the folds created dimension and shading.
Here’s the garland displayed on our outside table.
For a quick snapshot, I just layed a few pieces on the top of the table to create the draping. For real use, I’d pin those sections to the edge of the table.
This came out so cute!
And here on the right, is where it currently resides on our mantle = )
YAY, Happy fall, and Happy crafting!
Amanda and Naomi
