ROCK SOLID Dad

Hi friends,

We’re starting our first official week of summer! I still can’t believe we just finished 2+ months of schooling at home and survived. Home became school pretty quickly and now we’re working towards enjoying just home. I hope you can switch gears too and welcome summer relaxation. Part of summer includes celebrating dads out there. My hubby is such a great dad, I thought of him as we prepped for this craft. I wanted to easily communicte what he means to our kids and provide the same for other kids.

Today we have 2 activities for a dad’s day gift. The 1st is a sheet that tells Dad how he’s ROCK SOLID in your life; it’ll be used to make a card, or cut and framed instead. The 2nd is a painted rock for Dad- used as a paperweight, shelf decor, placed on a window sill, in a planter, or the garden. Check it out below!

The Steps

Card/Framed Sheet

We decided to make a card with 2 colors and 1 card for all 4 kids to share(less paper for dad).

*Skip these steps if you want to frame only.

  1. Glue sheets to each other

  2. Fold in half.

3. Think of words(adjectives) or phrases that describe Dad (younger kids will need help with this) and START with:

R

O

C

K

4. Then fill in with pencil.

I filled in words for Matthias as he has no idea what’s happening lol

Micah gave me his 4 dad words/phrases, I helped convert them and place them in order: “I like Dad a lot, he’s funny, he’s kind and Dad is a hard worker” = Really likable, Outstanding worker, Comical, Kind = )

5. I then wrote down the words for Micah and he traced them in marker. Erase pencil markings after.

Matthias “signed” his name under. I did my best to shield the areas I didn’t want him writing on.

The older 2 did the same.

6. Cut out the sheet/s and glue inside the card or frame.

If you place it higher up, it’ll leave a small space for the kids to write a little note or “I love you" at the bottom.

7. Optional, write Happy Father’s Day on the front with the year.

Set that aside

Rock Gift

  1. Use newspaper or paper plate to paint your smooth, clean rocks.

You can paint a base coat in black or white but it’s not necessary.

2. Manoah drew a lightning bolt in pencil and then painted it and the surrounding areas.

3. Naomi painted her rock red and then when it dried drew ladybug features.

4. Under the dry rocks have the kids add their name, month and year, then seal (optional).

That’s it!

You can place the card or frame in a small gift bag with the rock and add Dad’s favorite drink and treat inside.

Rock inspired treat ideas! Rocky Road candybar, Rock candy, Rockstar drink or Rocky Road ice cream =)

Naomi used the gloss finish sealer and Manoah used the matte.

The littles were napping during the painting portion so they’ll get to that later.

This was so much fun and ALL the kiddos participated! We even used rocks Dad dug up while working on the backyard, A win-win-win for this mama = )

Happy crafting and Happy Father’s Day

Amanda and Naomi
