Hi friends,
Earth Day is Wednesday. I can’t help but be thankful in such a difficult season; the Earth is getting some rest and a little healing from all the harshness it endures. The skies are also clearer in many parts of the world; as well as the natural bodies of water. I am also thankful and extremely blessed to have open space for our family to roam, burn off energy, fight boredom, take in Vitamin D, discover, and temporarily escape the concerns of today. I know my littles aren’t fully aware of all that’s happening and that’s OK; with activities like today’s, they can continue to just be and enjoy simplicity.
The activity commemorates Earth Day and helps your kiddos find the beauty in their surroundings. If you don’t have access to grass, plants, flowers, bark, twigs, or herbs, try dried herbs, small nuts, nutshells, dried pasta, eggshells, or rice. You can also swap out the butterfly for one of their creepy-crawly toy bugs or just color one in. Check it out below.

What You'll Need
Natural Items
Fake Butterfly
Glue or Glue Gun
Scissors
Optional: Artificial Greenery, Crayons/Markers
The Steps
Print your sheets.
Most of our flowers have grown! We found petals or flower heads on the ground so we didn’t have to pull any off. We also used some of the leaves/greenery from the flowers.
2. Go outside and find your natural items. Maybe your neighbors would allow you to use some of theirs.
We also have herbs growing but the mint was the only one fully grown and in abundance, so we picked some sprigs. One of our trees had small narrow leaves and tiny berry clusters. Another tree had larger leaves we picked. We found twigs on the ground, bark from stumps, and tiny wild flowers from the grass.
We gathered our items in a hat and carried them to our work space.
3. Separate the leaves and cut if necessary.
4. Apply the glue to the letter and press down your greenery.
Glue guns work the fastest.
5. Continue with each letter, applying glue and greenery, flowers, or both.
We broke the twigs into smaller pieces and cut the petals too.
6. Decide where to glue on the butterfly or bug.
7. Clean up any leftover glue strands or let dry 15-30 min if using regular glue.
That’s it!
Optional: You may trace “happy” with a crayon or marker or color in the Earth.
My completed sheet.
Each letter came out so nicely!
Naomi’s sheet.
She’s so creative, she used twigs and tiny wild flowers for her T, the A included a few different items and lastly, her Y was made with the butterfly.
I seriously hadn’t even thought of that!
Happy Earth Day friends and Happy crafting,
Amanda and Naomi
