Hi Friends!
Today is Columbus Day! Although my kids will probably never hear a song about Christopher Columbus or remember it for that matter, I surprisingly remember bits of a song I heard as a kid lol. I mean, I haven’t been a kid for quite some time; I don’t know WHY I still remember, but I do. If you can remember anything positive from your youth that’s always a plus; so hopefully these little boats will make it into your kiddo’s memory bank. Half the fun is looking for unique twigs, the other is assembling. So let’s break twigs together and make these cute little boats. As I share this craft with you, I can’t help replay the song in my head, because clearly it’s important. When I figure it out, I’ll let ya’ know.
Anyone else remember a Christopher Columbus song growing up? Tell me it’s normal.

What You'll Need
11 x 14 Poster Board Sheet
Twigs or Pretzel Sticks
Hot Glue
Color Pencils/Crayons
Red Pipe Cleaner
Parchment Paper
Scissors
The Steps
Draw your boats and color in.
You can proceed to color in the ocean and sky or wait until later on. Sooner is better than later, we learned the hard way haha.
2. Draw your sails and cut out. Set aside.
I chose all square/rectangle shapes with inward curves on the sides and bottom. Naomi had a combination of squares and moon shaped ones.
3. Add hot glue to where your posts will be.
Using curved twigs creates a 3D appearance.
4. Cut the pipe cleaners to size and glue a cross to three of the larger sails.
5. Glue onto center post on each boat.
This is where we began to color in the ocean and sky.
Naomi decided on an early sunset.
6. Break the twigs to size and glue on.
You may use pretzel sticks instead if you’d like.
7. Write the names of the ships: Nina, Santa Maria, & Pinta or leave out.
That’s it!
Friends, if I can find a clip of the song, I’ll link it. I can’t be the only one replaying this song.
Happy crafting!
Amanda and Naomi
